World Social Forum (WSF)
Karachi, Pakistan (March
24th and 29th, 2006)
World Social Forum (WSF) is an open meeting
space for reflective thinking, democratic debate of ideas, formulation
of proposals, free exchange of experiences and inter linking of
effective action for groups and movements of civil society, that
are opposed to neo-liberalism and the domination of the world
by capital and imperialism. It is committed to building a World
society in which fruitful relationships among human kind and environmental
considerations abound. The motto for the WSF is "another
world is possible". The forum brings this slogan to life
with its chosen speakers, workshops, panels, debates, marches,
and cultural events. It provides an open platform for activists
and intellectuals alike to discuss strategies of resistance to
globalisation, and to present constructive alternatives.
The Sixth World Social
Forum was a Polycentric event that commenced in Caracas (Venezuela)
and Bamako (Mali) on January 24-29, 2006, and will draw to a close
in Karachi (Pakistan). WSF Karachi will be a series of events
that will be held simultaneously in a cluster of venues between
March 24th and 29th, 2006.
As a part of the WSF,
SAAPE is organising a event around the theme of "Struggle
for Democracy and Survival in the Age of Globalisation: South
Asian Perspective" on the 26th of March 2006. We are planning
to bring representatives of grassroots communities and the civil
society from different South Asian counties together on a common
platform to discuss and address people's issues and concerns.
