International conference on Democracy,
Peace, Food Sovereignty
An International conference on Democracy, Peace,
Food Sovereignty and action plan for Road to Hong Kong was organized
on 3-4 December 2005, Kathmandu, Nepal. The meeting was jointly
organized by the All Nepal Peasants Association (ANPA)
and the South Asia Alliance for Poverty Eradication (SAAPE).
It was well attended by delegates representing different movements,
mass organizations and peasants organizations.
The international delegates were: Mr. Biplab Halim:
Secretary General-South Asian Peasant's Coalition, Indian Federation
of Toiling Peasants and Mr. Birendra Kumar Moitra: a leader
of the Agragamee Kisan Sabha.MR. Saiful Huq: General Secretary,
B A L U, Mr. Nurul Anwor: General Secretary-Bangladesh Agricultural
Farm Labour Federation, MR. Pathak Lal Golder: Representative,
Bangladesh Krishok Federation, Ms. Imelda Lacandazo - KMP National
Vice-chairperson, Mr. John Milton Lozande-Secretary general
-National Federation of Sugar Workers-food and general trades,
Philippines and Mr. Paul Nicholson-ICC member, La Via Campesina

The upcoming Ministerial meeting is very important
for peasants and small agricultural producers. The meeting is
going to take several decisions that will directly impact the
lives of millions and millions of peasants and people in the
all over the world. Therefore, it was very important for all
of us to come together and discuss the matters of our concerned
together and protect the rights of our people. This meeting
discussed many issues related to the WTO and its consequences
on developing countries, agriculture and on small farmers.
At the end the declaration was adopted and on
the 4th of December a press conference was organized and it
was shared with the media and was made public.
